Hub grease seals are used to prevent water, dirt and grime from entering the hub and causing bearing failure.  Grease seals should be inspected and replaced when signs of wear or damage is noticed.  Once indication could be grease build up on the inside of your hub. Grease seals come in double and triple lipped styles.
