The tie plate spreads the U-bolt clamping load across the spring and locates the axle on the spring's center bolt. Bent or rust-thinned plates let an axle shift, which shows up as dog-tracking and tire wear. Match the plate bend to the tube: round tubes take round-bend U-bolts and plates, square tubes take square-bend. Plates and kits here are matched by tube diameter and spring width.
